This application is scientifically backed by the Grupo Español de Reanimación Cardiopulmonar Pediátrica y Neonatal (GERCPPN), whose objective is to promote the training for pediatric and neonatal CPR in Spain, and by the Instituto Valenciano de Pediatría (IVP), whose scientific activity centres around the promotion of pediatric CPR.
Why is an APP about Pediatric CPR scientifically backed?
One of the most important factors influencing the survival of a child who has had a cardiac arrest is the early start of the resuscitation procedure and the quality of the actions. There are many apps on the marketplace about this subject, but most remain in an informative or descriptive layout and include some pictures or videos that show guidelines that are not updated.
Those of us who are dedicated to training about health issues believe that when it comes to saving the lives of children, it is a social and moral responsibility to broadcast the best knowledge of Basic Pediatric CPR techniques to the general population and design a practical, complete, current and useful guide.
It is practical because it shows how to act in cases of choking or any other situation that exposes a child or baby to a possible cardiac arrest.
It is complete because it includes flow diagrams, images, videos and audios of the steps to follow and then evaluates what was learned through a test which presents emergency situations that a person could encounter and to which they must respond.
It is up-to-date because it is based on the latest International Guidelines about CPR from the European Resuscitation Council, published in 2010.
This application is useful for the general population and especially for those people who live or work with children: parents, grandparents, teachers, babysitters, etc. because it not only allows continued education while training with the app, but allows the downloading and printing of guidelines and recommendations about CPR so that they are available anytime, anywhere.
Who is the GERCPPN?
The GERCPPN was established in 1992 with the participation of doctors from the “Sociedades de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos, y Medicina Intensiva Crítica y Unidades Coronarias”, “Sociedad Española de Neonatología” and the “Sociedad Española de Urgencias Pediátricas”, officially established in 1994.
It currently forms part of the two most important Scientific Societies in the field of quality CPR, which are the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and the Consejo Español de Resucitación (CERCP).
Who is the IVP?
The Instituto Valenciano de Pediatría, founded in 1995, devotes much of its scientific activity to the disclosure of Pediatric CPR to the general public and health personnel through courses and publications. Currently, three members (Dr. Ignacio Manrique, Dr. Valero Sebastian and Dr. Sara Pons), hold positions of responsibility in the GERCPPN and the Consejo Español de Resucitación.
